How to spot an AI-built website.

You land on another product page: huge headline on the left, animated dashboard on the right, softly glowing cards underneath. It feels familiar. Does that mean AI made it? It may resemble common AI output, but the design alone does not settle the question.

Start with what the author actually says

A clear statement that a website was generated with an AI tool is more useful than its palette. Read the scope: “our app uses AI” says something different from “we built this website using AI.” Builder credits and generator metadata can be clues, but badges can be embedded and comments copied.

Look at the whole hero composition

The hero is the opening section with the main headline. Recurring patterns include copy beside an animated visual, two calls to action, a small uppercase label, an emphasized headline word, and a decorative terminal or dashboard. One is common design practice. A whole recurring arrangement is more interesting.

Inspect typography and spacing together

Geometric sans fonts, tightly tracked headings, huge section padding and monospace accent labels can create a recognizable aesthetic across otherwise different themes. A font is not a fingerprint on its own; libraries, templates and human designers reuse the same families.

Read the marketing language

Repeated “Your X. Your Y.” constructions, “everything you need,” generic superlatives, and similarly sized feature descriptions are useful things to notice. Do not confuse clean grammar, an em dash, or English as a second language with proof of generation.

Check the scaffolding

In page source, compare component names, nested div wrappers, CSS tokens, animation helpers and section comments. Patterns such as hero-content, section-header and feature-card can recur even when the visual theme changes. They are also sensible human-written names, so combine observations rather than turning one match into a verdict.

Keep trust separate

A human can build a scam. AI can help build a useful, accurate site. When deciding whether to trust a business, check its identity, claims, contact details and independent track record separately. This scanner is a way to inspect patterns, not a replacement for those checks.
